How to Convert a Lead to a Contact or Deal in Vedain

When a lead is qualified and ready to move forward, convert them to a Contact and/or Deal. This preserves all the information you have gathered while moving the opportunity into your sales pipeline.

When to Convert a Lead

Convert a lead when:

  • You have confirmed there is a real buying interest (they are qualified).
  • You want to start tracking a specific deal value and close date.
  • You want to associate them with a company account.
  • You need their record to appear in contact-level reports.

How to Convert

  1. Open the lead you want to convert.
  2. Click the Convert button (top right of the lead detail page).
  3. A dialog appears with three options:
  4. Create Contact — creates a contact record with the lead's information.
  5. Create Deal — creates a deal in your pipeline.
  6. Create Both — creates both simultaneously (recommended).
  7. If creating a Deal: enter the deal name, value, expected close date, and pipeline stage.
  8. If creating a Contact: optionally link to an existing Account or create a new one.
  9. Click Convert.
  10. You are redirected to the new Contact or Deal record.

What Data Carries Over

  • First Name, Last Name, Email, Phone carry to the Contact record.
  • Company name carries to the Account (if creating one).
  • Deal Value and Expected Close Date carry to the Deal.
  • Notes and timeline history links back to the original lead.
  • Custom field data carries over if the same custom field exists on Contacts.

After Conversion

The original lead record remains in your Leads list — it is not deleted. Its status is updated to Converted. A link to the new Contact/Deal appears on the lead's detail page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the original lead get deleted after conversion?

No. The original lead stays in your Leads list with status 'Converted'. It is not modified or deleted. You can still view its history and data.

Can I convert the same lead more than once?

Yes. You can convert a lead to create additional deals — useful if the same lead has interest in multiple products or projects.

Can I undo a conversion?

There is no undo for conversion. The created Contact and Deal records can be deleted individually if needed. The original lead's status can be manually changed back from 'Converted'.
