How to Set a Field as Required
- Go to Settings → Field Config.
- Select the Leads or Contacts tab.
- Find the field you want to make required.
- Toggle the Required switch on (it turns blue/active).
- The field is now required — users cannot save a lead or contact without filling it in.
What Happens When a Required Field Is Skipped?
When a user tries to save a lead or contact without filling in a required field, Vedain shows a red validation error directly below the empty field: "This field is required." The form will not save until all required fields are completed.
Which Fields Are Required by Default?
By default, only First Name (or Full Name) is required. All other fields — including Email and Phone — are optional out of the box. We recommend making the following fields required for most sales teams:
- •Phone — essential for follow-up calls
- •Email — required for email campaigns
- •Lead Source — needed for source attribution reports
- •Owner — ensures every lead is assigned to someone
Making Custom Fields Required
Custom fields you create in Settings → Custom Fields also appear in Field Config and can be toggled as required. For example, if you created a custom field called 'Budget Range', you can make it required so sales reps always capture it.
Required Fields for Contacts vs Leads
Field Config has separate tabs for Leads, Contacts, and Accounts. Required settings are independent — making Phone required for Leads does not automatically make it required for Contacts.

Can I make custom fields required?

Can I make Email required but not Phone?
Yes. Required settings are per-field and independent. You can make any combination of fields required without affecting others.
What if I import leads via CSV — are required fields enforced?
Required field validation only applies to the manual form. CSV imports are not blocked by required field settings, allowing bulk imports of partial data.
Can required fields be different for Admins vs Sales Reps?
No. Required field settings are company-wide and apply to all users equally. The same fields are required for everyone.
