How to Insert a Merge Tag
- Open your email template in Settings → Email Templates.
- Place your cursor where you want the tag.
- Click the Merge Tags button in the editor toolbar.
- Select the tag from the dropdown.
- The tag appears in your template as {{firstName}}.
- When the email sends, {{firstName}} is replaced with the actual recipient's first name.

What Happens When Data Is Missing?
If a lead has no first name, {{firstName}} renders as a blank space. To avoid this, use a conditional fallback: write 'Hi {{firstName}} there,' — if firstName is blank, it reads 'Hi there,' which is still natural.

Can I create custom merge tags for my custom fields?
Currently the available merge tags are the standard contact fields listed above. Custom field merge tags are not yet supported — you cannot insert custom field values like Budget or Region via merge tags.
Is including {{unsubscribeLink}} required?
It is strongly recommended and required for compliance with CAN-SPAM (US), GDPR (EU), and similar email laws. Always include it in the footer of any marketing email. Without it, recipients cannot opt out and you risk being marked as spam.
