Step 1: Open Live Chat settings
- Go to Settings → Communication → Live Chat.
- Set your Company name (shown in the widget header), button color, and greeting message.
- Click Save Live Chat settings — this generates your embed code.
Step 2: Add the widget to your website
Copy the one-line embed code from the top of the Live Chat settings page and paste it just before the closing </body> tag on your website. It works on any platform — WordPress, Webflow, Shopify, or hand-coded sites. The bubble appears in the bottom-right corner immediately.
Step 3: Choose what visitors provide before chatting
In the Pre-chat Form section you control which fields visitors fill in before the conversation starts — name, email, and phone can each be shown, required, or hidden, and you can add one custom question such as "Order number". Keeping email required means every chat can become a lead and a support ticket later.
Step 4: Answer conversations from the Live Chat workspace
- •Open Live Chat in the left sidebar to see all conversations in real time.
- •Filters show Open, Needs human, Mine, Unassigned and Resolved queues.
- •Click a conversation to reply — the moment an agent replies, the AI steps back and the human owns the chat.
- •The right-hand panel shows the visitor's details, current page, linked lead, and private internal notes.
What happens automatically
- •Visitors who give a name and email are created as leads with source "Chat Widget".
- •Conversations appear on the lead's and contact's record pages under Live Chats.
- •New chats trigger a sound and browser notification for your agents.
- •If a visitor returns later, their conversation resumes where it left off.

Once the widget is live, configure the AI assistant so it can answer questions about your business, set business hours and routing, and enable satisfaction ratings — each has its own guide in this knowledge base.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a developer to install the widget?
No. It's a single script tag you paste into your site's HTML — most site builders have a "custom code" or "footer scripts" box where it can go.
Will the chat widget slow my website down?
No. The widget loads asynchronously after your page renders, so it doesn't block your content or hurt page-speed scores.
Can I use Live Chat on multiple websites?
Yes — the same embed code works on any number of sites, and every conversation lands in the same Live Chat workspace.
What happens if no agent is online?
Outside your configured business hours the widget shows your offline message and collects the visitor's details so your team can follow up — the chat is flagged as "missed" in the workspace.
